Literature Text

The Chronicler spun to face Cynder, tears already in her eyes, "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"

It was not Cynder who answered, but rather the book that began to float by her side, "I've begun to set the stage for the future, Chronicler,  For the world I aim at to be true, his death MUST happen…and so must yours."

She backed up, frightened, "Wh…what are you…"

The book paused for a moment in its hover, and the pages flew open, showing Chronos standing strong, and the Chronicler dead at his feet, "There is yet a way to save him.  A way that once saved you those years ago.  Only one of you can live.  Will it be Chronos, or you, Chronicler?  You know HOW to save him.  Will you?"

She sobbed a little, but knelt down beside her mate, "Chronos…Chronos, come back to me.  The book…the book wanted you dead, but…I know how to save you.  Come back.  Just for a moment, come back to me.  I'll gladly give my life for you, Heart of mine…"  He blinked and…and stood up.  But as he stood, his form was wispy…not quite there.  And his movements were slowed a little, and his form wasn't completely solid.  She sniffed a little and smiled at him, "Chronos…I want you to live on…"

"What?  But you-"

"Have been living long enough.  Chronos, Malefor trusts you more than he does me.  You should remain for him…become the Chronicler.  Tell the world of his magnificence in my absence.  Please, Chronos.  I could not bear your death…"

"But I could not bear yours!  You mustn't DO this!"

The book interrupted the two by floating between them…"Chronos NEEDS to become the next Chronicler.  The purple dragon that comes after Malefor will need his guidance.  Do it.  Please…"

Chronos snorted, "…you're controlling the girl.  Aren't you?!"

"Yes."

"And you forced power through her and killed me!"

"Yes."

"Why then should I trust anything you do?"

The pages began to turn again, this time flowing along smoothly, until they rest on a picture of Spyro in a large grassy field, with Cynder at his side and smiling gently, "So that this future can happen.  Please."

"Well?"  Malefor asked, giving her a slight glare.

The book shook slightly, but…relented, "Fine.  I…I will…I will become yours if…if you help Spyro.  He means too much to me to let him die in the past.  And I mustn't let the future change.  When I am restored in the present, you…will…have me."

Malefor smiled, "GOOD!  Great to hear!  Okay, what do you need me to do?"  Silently thoug, his mind was still speaking, "It worked!  You were RIGHT!!!!  Everything worked!  Even the whole pretending to hate you part of it!  She PROMISED she'd be mine!!!!"

"I keep my word, young Master.  When next we are alone, I need your help to free me of this blackened prison.  I will place myself in the earth and create for you a being so powerful it can destroy this world.  It will be fully under your control."

"…you…you're talking about the DESTROYER."

"Yes, I am.  It does not need to destroy, but so often that is what it is called to do.  I will place myself in the earth and the creature will be yours to control."

"…Malefor?"

He blinked and shook his head, "Sorry…I…I lost focus there for a minute.  What were you saying?"

"You need to go to the training grounds here in the Chronicler's realm.  Strengthen yourself until you can match Spyro for power and summon the essence of the purple dragon.  Open the pathway that will allow Spyro and my body to return to this time."

"You got it."  He grinned slightly.  This was going to work!

"I…Cynder…c…come back…"  Spyro sobbed silently.  He couldn't get around very well with his injured leg.  He had changed spots…and was laying on the place Cynder HAD been.  He;d been so CLOSE!  So…so close.  It…wasn't fair.  He NEEDED her.  She'd been DEAD, and then…seeing her alive…he NEEDED her!  It wasn't FAIR to just take her away like that!  It WASN'T!  He sighed and closed his eyes, breathing in the last faint scent of her on that bed.  He HAD to find a way to get her back.  He NEEDED her back.  It…he just…"…Cynder…"

"Oh, you poor thing…"

Spyro glanced around, "Wh…who…"

"I am the Chronicler-WAS the Chronicler of this world.  Chronos didn't understand what he was doing.  He apologizes…and bring you this."  What the…CYNDER!!!!!

Spyro rushed to her side, crying out and falling when he used his momentarily forgotten injured leg.  Spyro hobbled the rest of the way to her.  He laid beside her with a bright smile on his face, "Thank you…thank you so much…"  Tears were coming again, but these were happier tears now, and…he…he could FEEL her again.  Hear her breathing!  She was ALIVE…and with him once more.  It felt so wonderful to have her back…

The feminine voice chuckled lightly, "You're welcome, young dragon.  Spyro.  Listen well.  I don't have much time left.  The way that brought you here is going to open again soon.  Go to the stockpile of gemstones and take in what energy you need to complete the link to go home.  Be ready for when it happens."

"I will be.  Thank you."  But the voice didn't answer.  Oh well.  Spyro couldn't bear the idea of parting from her AGAIN so soon, so he dragged her with him over to the massive amount of gems.  Hm…earth power.  Spyro released every ounce of earthen power he could on the gemstones, taking in what they had to offer him.  It grew to be so MUCH that the pain in his leg ceased!  That created a drop in energy, but was quickly restored.  Grinning at himself, Spyro took in more and more.  HE could feel he was already at a high enough level of power to go off, but he didn't DARE.  He had a passenger this time, and didn't want to see anything happen to her.  More…more…ghk!  AUGH!  Too much!  He…he was slipping!  He could feel his darkness rising up, wanting to seize control of so much power.  No.  He wouldn't let it.  He WOULD NOT GIVE IN!!!!!  He had everything he needed again.  Cynder was back, and he'd find a way to restore her mind.  Ignitus would have some answers.  He would NOT let his darkness overwhelm him this time!!!!  The pathway!  It was THERE!!!!  The massive tunnel opened up, and Spyro SHOT through it, carrying Cynder with his front paws.  He could ALREADY feel his power getting drained…but he wouldn't die in there.  He'd get Cynder to safety.  He HAD to.  She was depending on HIM.  He…almost there…MADE IT!!!!!!!!

… …

………………………………………………………………….

"…I made it…"  Spyro passed out as every last drop of energy finally left him.

Malefor gently nudged Spyro.  Huh.  The guy was out cold.  He grinned.  This was his CHANCE!  He pulled Cynder away from Spyro and grabbed the book, "Alright.  He's back.  Now you have to fulfill your part of the bargain."

"…I…I can't."

"What?!"

"The tunnel…I think it DID something to my body.  I can't get back in it.  Not yet.  Something else is still wrong.  I should be able to get in it right now, right here, but I…I just…I CAN'T.  I don't know WHY.  I just plain CAN'T!

…was it clear?

Plasius lifted his head above ground for the moment.  It LOOKED clear.  He wasn't in the Chronicler's realm anymore, either.  He'd gotten away somehow.  Good.  It was ABOUT TIME he got out of there!  He couldn't just wait for his partner, either.  He'd have to hurry and begin their plans or risk having them fall apart before anything could START!  Now…he just had to find that cave…

Long hours of travel later brought him to his destination.  The cave…it had a HUGE crack down one side, but that was to be expected with how much time had passed.  He just hoped that everything was still where it needed to be.  They'd been hunting down the pieces for SO long…it wouldn't do if more were suddenly lost.

Deep within the cave, farther than most would have dared go, lay an island in the center of a river of magma.  Plasius easily jumped across the gap and looked over everything.  It was all still there.  Good.  Very good.  He glanced up at a pedestal that had five small orb-shaped indents on it.  Hm…they'd lost a little after all.  Only the center one was lit a bright purple.  The other four were lifeless.  He scowled.  If his original powers were still with him, lighting one of the dad orb-shaped recesses would have been simple.  Well, he didn't mind.  The last time he'd seen this place, the purple flame had not yet been lit.  It had been the hardest to come across.  With it lit, gathring the other four wouldn't be difficult.  It would STILL help if he had his companion with him, but THAT dragon was still hidden inside the Chronicler's realm.

Well, he had little to do but wait.  Plasius gathered a large number of blocks that had been set to the side.  He began to place them all over the ground, taking some and putting them in new places, fitting them together like pieces to a large puzzle…

Heh. Anyway, I DO hope you like it. We are beginning to reach a major turning point in the story. But you probably aren't interested in that. Want choices? I got choices! I got GOOD choices! (I hope!) ^__^

A ) Cynder can't get into her body? They need to find out why.

B ) What of Malefor's friends in the past? What's happening to them?

C ) What's Plasius up to?

D ) What about the other one he mentioned?

E ) What made Spyro faint like that?

F ) Will Malefor REALLY bring back the Destroyer? He's already done it once and helped kill it once! Shouldn't he be TIRED of that thing by now?

G ) Wait...what if he's got different plans in mind than the gemstone? He WAS pretty upset about the whole turning into a monster thing. Is he just faking everything to fool the gem?

H ) What's Ignitus up to?
